NOTES
GENERAL
  • Project manager is stationed in Urambo: this has greatly facilitated contacts with the local stakeholders and authorities, as well as with the tobacco companies and tobacco growers' association
  • For budget year 2005/2006 the District council has set aside TZS 4'000'000 (USD 3'600) to coordinate child labour activities within the district
  • The impact of the project has encouraged the Government of Tanzania, Ministry of Education, to fund the construction of additional classrooms

AWARENESS-RAISING
As a direct consequence of and in addition to the project: 
  • Tanzania Tobacco Leaf has printed 1’200 t-shirts on child labour
  • Association of Tanzania Tobacco Traders has prepared and printed 10’000 leaflets on child labour
  • Tanzania Tobacco Board has prepared contracts to be signed by the growers which stipulates the prohibition of using child labour
