In-Country Advocacy in Indonesia

Working with different agricultural sub-sectors in Indonesia

Collaboration and synergies with other agricultural commodities are crucial for the realization of the ECLT Foundation’s vision of a world in which agriculture free of child labour.

In 2023, ECLT Foundation’s advocacy work in Indonesia resulted in collaboration with the Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS) in conducting out a baseline assessment of child labour policies and practices in agriculture. By the end of 2023, the twenty-six companies in the coffee, palm oil, and tobacco sectors had responded to the baseline assessment questionnaire.

The outcomes of the self-assessment survey will be used to synthesize good practices for addressing child labour in different sectors in Indonesia agriculture, identifying gaps and the development of improvement plans.

At a strategic level, the partnership with BAPPENAS and other sectors will be further reinforced in 2024 and beyond. This collaborative effort aims to engender government ownership and leadership, and enhance comprehensive child protection, particularly in regions where various commodities intersect or overlap. Additionally, ECLT Foundation seeks to level the playing field, thereby increasing funding available for initiatives combating child labour in agriculture in Indonesia.
