Tanzania ratified the ILO Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention 182 in September 2001. click here for more information on this convention

Tanzania signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the ILO-IPEC for creating and implementing programmes to fight child labour in 1994.

Tobacco-growing was identified as one of the worst forms of child labour in Tanzania following a National Round table in 2001.

An ILO-IPEC sub-regional programme to combat hazardous child labour in commercial agriculture

 
   

(COMAGRI) has been implemented since 2001, and aims 4 districts, one in which tobacco-growing is wide-spread – Urambo. ECLT will specifically be funding this part of the programme.
