Ensuring the sustainability and lasting impact of a project is an essential target of the ECLT Foundation's work.
The final evaluation of the AECL Tadwe school project was undertaken by Save the Children (Denmark and Zimbabwe offices) in June 2005.
In parallel a follow up and consolidation phase was approved and will last for 18 months from the date of the formal project completion until June 2006.
The Tobacco Tenants and Allied Workers Union of Malawi (TOTAWUM), who were key in identifying the project site and were also one of the ECLT’s implementing partners for this project, are carrying out this consolidation phase.
The consolidation phase ensures:
- Motivation and empowerment of the communities in the Tadwe area on the child labour issue
- Follow-up on the child labour situation of this area and assess the lasting impact of the project
The field activities will be:
- Regular visits to the school site area
- Meetings with all actors related to the project (children, teachers, PTAs, child labour committees etc.)
- Monitor the evolution of the child labour situation
- Help the committees spread the dynamic to surrounding areas, landowners, farm workers, schools etc.
- Support the committees’ initiatives and requests to the relevant District Assembly authority
The 18-month consolidation budget is USD 9'000.
