ECLT Foundation engagement with the Government of Mozambique

The Memorandum of Understanding between ECLT Foundation and Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MITSS) was renewed for an additional three years in 2022. The two parties agreed to continue collaboration in strengthening the legal and institutional framework for addressing child labour, and in child labour monitoring and remediation at community level.

In pursuance of the MOU, the National Labour Directorate conducted a familiarization and learning visit to the ECLT-funded Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS) pilot project in Angonia district in 2023. Following the field visit, specific areas requiring MITSS inputs, facilitation and support were pinpointed. These include facilitating vulnerable children’s access to state social protection programmes, enhancing the accessibility of birth certificates and establishment of more secondary schools. Another joint visit is planned in 2024.

In 2024, ECLT and MITSS have agreed to collaborate in reviewing, updating and popularizing the list of hazardous tasks for children below 18, among other priorities.
