Share good practice

ECLT promotes good practice in two ways.  We make sure that good practice is communicated and spread amongst our own projects.  We also seek to share and promote good practice to other organisations outside ECLT.

Good practice amongst ECLT project partners

ECLT organises partner meetings to share effective strategies and lessons learned. The first meeting of ECLT partners was held in Tanzania, Dar es Salaam, in September 2006 with objectives to:

  • Share and learn from partner experiences,
  • Establish the status of implementation of activities to combat child labour, and,
  • Identify common themes and map future strategic and project practise directions.

Partner Workshops were held in Nairobi, Kenya in 2007 and in Geneva, Switzerland in 2008. Download the 2008 Workshop Report.

Good practice with external stakeholders

Although situations tend to vary a lot in different tobacco growing countries, the ECLT Foundation has a role to play in disseminating best practice (through case studies) not only among its own members – and especially their local affiliates – but also with external partners.

ILO/IPEC’s long standing experience in this regard is of crucial importance and helps the ECLT Foundation to develop and publicise good practice in its own specific field.

Other agricultural sectors will also benefit from our research and experience. Already the ECLT Foundation has served as a model in the creation of a similar initiative in the cocoa growing sector.

Prior to the establishment of the ECLT Foundation, some of its Board Members were already involved in and supporting projects to address child labour in tobacco growing. An example of this is featured in a case study, with a Brazailian organisation, Souza Cruz.
