Field research Establishing best practices

Best practice amongst ECLT project partners

A first-ever, meeting of ECLT partners was held in Tanzania, Dar es Salaam, in September 2006 with the objectives of:

  • Sharing and learning from partner experiences
  • Establishing the status of implementation of CL activities, and
  • Identifying commonalities and to map future strategic and project practise directions

The participants concluded the workshop on a third day, and overwhelmly evaluated it as a big success in terms of experience exchange and learning. Please click here for the full workshop report. A Partner Workshop was held in Geneva in 2008, please see here for the 2008 Partner Workshop Report.

Best practice with external stakeholders
Although situations tend to vary a lot in the various tobacco growing countries, the ECLT Foundation has a role to play in disseminating best practice (through case studies) not only among its own members - and especially their local affiliates - but also with external partners. ILO/IPEC long standing experience in this regard will be of crucial importance and will help the ECLT Foundation to develop and publicise best practice in its own specific field.

Other agricultural sectors will also benefit from our research and experience. Already, the ECLT Foundation has served as model in the creation of a similar initiative in the cocoa growing sector.

Prior to the establishment of the ECLT Foundation, some of its Board Members have already been involved in and supporting projects to fight against child labour in tobacco growing:
